The Tony George Jazz Stage Is Back for Harvest 2026
Every September, something shifts in downtown Fredericton. The streets fill with music, the evenings stretch a little longer, and for a few days this city reminds you exactly why it's one of the best places in Atlantic Canada. Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival has always had that effect, and for us, it also means the Tony George Jazz Stage comes to life again, right here at the Hilton Garden Inn Fredericton Downtown.
The Story Behind the Name
Tony George was one of those people Fredericton's music scene simply couldn't have functioned without. He founded Tony's Music Box in 1975, and for nearly five decades that store wasn't just a place to buy instruments, but the epicentre of local music life. He was an exceptional drummer himself; he played vibraphones and spent years as the first call for anyone who needed advice, encouragement, or just someone in their corner. Brent Staeben, director of the Harvest Music Festival, said it best: "He was the go-to guy for us for so many years. He always had an open ear; he always had good advice." Tony passed away in July 2022 at 86, and his loss was felt across the entire community. Naming this stage after him is our way of keeping that spirit where it belongs, in the music.
